Unless you live under a rock, when looking for vehicles you have seen Cars For Sale (carsforsale.com) on your usual lists of websites that specialize in selling cars for both dealers and private sellers.
Cars For Sale is a great place to look for vehicles from everywhere in the U.S. Although it appears that many listings are found elsewhere, there are many that are exclusive to Cars For Sale, especially from private sellers.
However, shipping can be an issue. Dealers can ship cars, however you don't know who's doing it. Private sellers offering shipping should be taken with extreme caution because it can be part of a scam.
You always want to procure your own transport if possible so you can decide who takes your new vehicle home to you. You do this by hiring a state to state and across the country car shipper.
Absolutely. You don't have to use a dealership's shipping service or anyone that you don't pick and research yourself. You simply finish the deal and we can take over the rest by coordinating pickup and delivery!
Cars for sale is a marketplace where dealers and private sellers can list vehicles for the public to see. They provide a contact form and contact phone number for these dealerships and sellers so you can call and begin the negotiation process.
They have some features on their listings that others don't. These little helpers are great to evaluate how strong of a position to negotiate you could have.
Carsforsale.com shows how many days the vehicle is listed and any price changes over that time period. The longer a car sits, the better the chance you have of getting a better day. If the car you want has been listed for 100 days, you can bet there's a chance to lower the price.
They also have a handy loan calculator so if you plan to finance a car, you can run some numbers to get an idea of what your budget is. You will have to adjust the interest rate to get an accurate payment. You don't see 5% anywhere these days.
Cars for Sale is great, but does miss out on a couple of features.
If you click on the condition report, you get a basic NMVTIS report. Kind of a bummer. NMVTIS does not provide accident/repair history or vehicle service and maintenance data. However, if you find a car you like and want a free Carfax report, just copy and pate the VIN on to Google, and search. You will find other places that car is listed. If it's also on carfax.com or eBay for example, you can get a full free report there!
Not every car listing is on Cars For Sale that is on places like TrueCar or or Carfax.com. But on the other hand you might find one not listed anywhere else.
